クスノキ科　　学名：Machilus thunbergii

椨。西南日本の暖温帯常緑広葉樹林の優占種で海岸近くの土壌の安定した場所に樹林をつくります。自然が保たれた足摺岬周辺には大木が多く鬱蒼とした森をつくっています。葉は鋸歯がなく光沢があり、若葉は赤みを帯びます。

In southwestern Japan, it is a dominant species in broadleaf evergreen forests in the warm temperate zone. They take root near the coast in areas where the soil is stable. Large trees of this species create dense forests in the abounding nature of Cape Ashizuri. Its leaves have smooth edges and are glossy. New leaves have a reddish hue.
