モクセイ科　　学名：Ligustrum japonicum var. japonicum

鼠黐。常緑樹林の林内や林縁に自生する常緑小高木。庭木などにも利用されます。葉は対生し、花は密につき白色です。楕円形で紫黒色に熟す種子はネズミの糞に似ており、また、木はモチノキに似ているのでこの名があります。

An evergreen shrub that is often used as a decorative garden tree. It has oppositely paired leaves, with flowers that are white and borne in clusters. The fruit is ovular, ripening purple-black, and in Japan they are popularly likened to mouse droppings.
