グミ科　　学名：Elaeagnus pungens

苗代茱萸。暖地の海岸近くから内陸の林縁に自生する常緑低木。苗代をつくる初夏に実が熟すのでこの名があります。枝には刺があり、葉の縁は波打って内側に巻き裏は銀褐色です。花は黄白色で、果実は赤く熟します。

A shrub that grows in the forest edges of warm coastal and inland areas. Parts of its stem are covered in thorns. The undersides of its alternately-arranged evergreen leaves are silvery white with brown flecks. The flowers are a pale yellow and its fruit ripens red in early summer.
